Baby room ideas have come a long way since the cliched days of forget-me-not blue and sugary pink. Neutrals and barely-there pigments are favourited nowadays for their calming effect and their ease of styling as they grow up without needing to redecorate every few years.
The same applies to furniture choices – think about what you can invest in once and invest in well so that they remain a part of your child’s room regardless of age.
These seven nursery room ideas are a failsafe guide for anybody with parenthood on the horizon.
PREFER SOFT COLORS FOR THE BABY'S ROOM
This is one of the first questions we ask ourselves: what color should you paint the walls of the baby's room? Prefer soft, more soothing colours. White, of course, but also light gray, light blue, powder pink and beige. These very neutral colors don't deprive you of a little fantasy: you can create a décor around the bed by imagining beautiful geometric shapes of colors (while staying in pastel colors). To your brushes!
As for bright colours or patterned wallpapers, they are not excluded but they are reserved for a more playful part of the room such as the play area or the office area.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT CRIB FOR A GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP
In the baby's room, the bed is obviously central. Very trendy for bohemian rooms, the bassinet offers a very retro decoration but only accommodates baby for a few months. The cot is more durable, especially if you choose an evolving model that can be transformed into a pretty bench.
We choose it with elegant compass legs and adorable retro lines.
OPT FOR SEVERAL LIGHT FIXTURES IN SOFT TONES
Which light to choose for the baby's room? To take care of baby's little eyes, make sure to create a soft, diffused light atmosphere. To do this, multiply the number of light points and above all avoid direct light. On the ceiling, for example, install a paper pendant lamp that offers a beautiful subdued light and add a bedside lamp on the chest of drawers or pretty wooden wall lamps, sober and playful.
What about baby night lights? Toddlers are not afraid of the dark, this fear comes later. However, have a night light available, not for baby but for you when you have to get up in the middle of the night for a bottle, a feeding or an overflowing diaper.
CREATE A COZY ATMOSPHERE WITH A RUG
For a cocooning atmosphere, what could be better than a soft rug? A rug can help structure the space nicely but can also serve as a sound insulator for your neighborhood. Choose it in sober colors and ideally easy to maintain.
CHOOSE SOFT BABY BED LINEN
In the baby's bed, pediatricians advise limiting bed linen to its strict minimum: a fitted sheet and a sleeping bag. A constraint that will not prevent you from taking care of the decoration on this side: choose beautiful elegant materials that are pleasant to the touch such as cotton gauze, a wonderful material for swaddling clothes.
DON'T NEGLECT THE CHANGING TABLE CORNER
If you have the space in the baby's room, why not set up a corner where baby can be comfortably changed? Whether you choose a beautiful changing chest (which will become a simple chest of drawers when the time for diapers is over), a sober changing table or a changing mat placed in a pretty wicker changing basket, imagine a space that is functional, warm and aesthetically pleasing.
Install a small shelf on which to store the few products you will need for your child's diaper, a small basket containing a few cotton pads, another, larger one with diapers: make sure you have everything you need at hand.
Finally, install a poetic mobile above your changing area to keep baby busy while you get busy.
DON'T FORGET STORAGE IN THE BABY'S ROOM
In a baby's room, limit the number of pieces of furniture, let the light circulate. A clean room is soothing. A small wardrobe is more than enough to store mini-clothes and bed linen. The Parisian wardrobe is popular: succumb to its retro charm but prefer it compact.
STAGING BABY'S TOYS
If baby is still too young to play with his pretty little figurines and other cute stuffed animals, can you imagine a little staging of some of his toys? To avoid spreading yourself too thin and to stay in a clean spirit, choose only a few toys, your favorites, and install them on a pretty little shelf.
