To obtain a friendly and cosy atmosphere in the living room, it is therefore essential to multiply the light sources.

Living room lighting: all our tips

GOOD LIGHTING IN THE LIVING ROOM

The lights are generally arranged according to the configuration of the room but also according to the different areas of activity (television, reception, reading time). For the general atmosphere, bet on one or more floor lamps placed in different places in the room and opt for table lamps near the sofa and coffee table. They illuminate without aggressiveness and enhance the space, furniture and decorative elements of the room.

FUNCTIONAL LIGHTING IN THE LIVING ROOM

Functional lighting is characterized by luminaires with a precise, more targeted function. If you like to read on your sofa, consider direct lighting. An e-reader that emits a more concentrated light will be ideal. If end tables surround the latter, opt for straight desk lamps or desk lamps made up of adjustable arms that will direct the light flow.

DECORATIVE LIGHTING IN THE LIVING ROOM

Decorative lighting is a kind of staging of the different light sources that illuminate the room. It is recommended to place table lamps, wall lamps and floor lamps at strategic points in the living room in order to reveal the architecture and volumes. It is indeed with the shadows and the lights that the atmosphere will take shape. Also, play with the design of these luminaires both in the shape of the body and in the lampshades that compose them.

Even if general or central lighting is not essential in a living room, you can still install pendant lights or a ceiling light, taking care not to hang them too low so as not to cut off the perspective of the room.

WHAT LIGHTING POWER FOR A LIVING ROOM?

The light intensity of the bulbs you choose for your living room lamps will help create the atmosphere of the room. There are several rules to follow when choosing your bulbs. On your lamps and pendants, an intensity is indicated, never choose a bulb with a higher intensity, at the risk of damaging your equipment. As your living room is a living room, it is best to choose a bulb that will diffuse a warm white or neutral white, more modern light. In terms of power, count on about 300 Lux.
